Dulux Colour of the Year for 2024 in Event Design

If you’re a regular reader of our blog then you’ll know that way back in January we predicted that pink would be THE colour for weddings in 2023. A calculated predictions with Barbie being the blockbuster of the year and pink being a superbly versatile colour palette for any party, corporate celebration, or wedding.  What nobody foresaw was that pink would cement itself as firmly into our collective psyche. So much so, that pink has been chosen yet again by the colour experts at Dulux as their annual favourite colour. So here, we look at ways you can keep up with the trend by using the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2024 in event design.

SWEET EMBRACE

Yes, Dulux has selected Sweet Embrace for the top spot in it’s colour rankings for 2024. And it’s a much more grown up, elegant shade than the Barbiecore magentas we saw at the beginning of this year. Not that we’re quite ready to let those go completely yet.

Described as a gentle blossom pink that is welcoming and brings a sense of peace and softness to a space, Sweet Embrace is certainly ideal for weddings. And what about the name? Weddings are full of symbolism, so what better than to base a day of romance and tenderness on a Sweet Embrace?

But it is much more than a wedding colour. Versatility is the key. The shade works with nudes and neutrals for a stylish private party design. Or contrasts with pale green shades as the palette for an elegant cocktail reception. It’s not a bold colour – but the ideal gentle base that allows you to build a unique, calm colour palette.

Feeling brave? Add deeper greens, rich purples, or blue shades as a total contrast – and you have a striking statement.

Here’s a few ideas on using the Dulux Colour of the Year 2024 in event design …..

BRANCH OUT WITH SWEET EMBRACE

Well what better way to use a blossom pink than on a dramatic full scale blossom tree? We love, for example, party tables that are imposing, imaginative, full of drama and decadence. Blossom trees not only look spectacular, adding height and glamour to your décor.  You can use them to flank a wedding aisle, frame doorways, bring a niche to life or provide a dramatic centre to your party table.

CREATE A SWEET EMBRACE BLANK CANVAS

Sweet Embrace is a metameric colour, which means it will transform with the lighting of the day. According to the décor experts at House Beautiful “it changes tone with the light – in the early morning light it appears crisper yet becomes a more blush pink during the brightness of midday, and increasingly violet in the evening.”

Our tip here then would be not to just use Sweet Embrace as an accent colour but as your entire canvas.  We’ve been known to redecorate complete rooms for our events so if your venue and budget allows when not give your space a blush pink makeover that will transform as the day goes on. If that’s out of reach, then swap out white table linens for this welcoming chameleonic colourway.

Layer up fifty shades of pink on top of it using floral installations, uplighting and canopies of blooms. Just as we did here in this amazing wedding where, in a marriage of the senses, we brought together dusty pink lighting and romantic installations with fragrant bouquets: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvho7nzs75Y/

SWEET EMBRACE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Using the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2024 in event design is a lot about turning ideas on their head. Using the colour in unpredictable ways. We know this colour changes with the light throughout the day. So why not change the colour of the light throughout the event instead.  Move from sharper pink, through blush to violet in your light production.  A great way to infuse all shades in your design. A real focal point. But also, a perfect way to sound changes from one part of the event to another, add to the mood or switch up the tempo.

BRING IN DELICATE TOUCHES OF SWEET EMBRACE

If top to toe pink sounds a little too much then remember, a hint of pink goes a long way. The skill to using the Dulux Colour of the Year for 2024 in event design is knowing where to use it for best effect – and colour doesn’t need to be over done! Add touches of blush pink touches to unusual places – inside teacups, on the underside of tablecloths or as pop of coloured glassware. THERE’S MORE THAN ONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR FOR 2024

We understand that Sweet Embrace won’t be everyone’s perfect match as the colour for a private party design or corporate event scheme. But fear not. There is more than one colour of the year for 2024. In fact, as outlined by this article in Living Etc., Sweet Embrace by Dulux is only just the beginning.

THINK PINK IS JUST FOR GIRLS?

Still think of pink as a feminine colour. Even Time Magazine is debating the stereotypes around pink and whether it has indeed become the latest ‘neutral’.  Read more about societies changing perceptions on pink here: https://time.com/6309632/is-pink-girl-color-barbie/
