The hotly anticipated haute couture collections from the most sought-after designers were revealed to celeb-packed front rows during London Fashion Week on 18th-22nd September 2022. And though you might not know it just yet, many of the trends will eventually influence everything from the décor in your home to the stationary you use. The same goes for events. It’s why we also take huge event inspiration from London Fashion Week each year.
But true couture events capture trends long before they infiltrate the mainstream. And unsurprisingly, Team TLC have had a keen eye on the latest styles that can be interwoven into de rigueur weddings and events.
Here’s a few of the collections that got our creative juices flowing…
FIZZY AND FLORAL AT CHRISTOPHER KANE
Kane’s lace-framed sugared-almond tones were almost good enough to eat. “Our woman was almost trimmed with a cake-like lace frosting,” the designer told Vogue. And the sweetly feminine side of his collection is an invitation to introduce frosted pastels into your wedding stationary, bridesmaids’ dresses, and table linen.
On a bolder note, he took an interesting twist on the floral theme. Attaching flower collages to sheer fabrics and plastics. It’s a simple yet stunning tactic that you can apply to your own event.
So, why not try adding pretty flower petals or edible blooms to your welcome cocktails or side salad? It’s the kind of tiny detail that makes a ginormous impact.
OIL ON CANVAS AT ERDEM
Imagine the archetypal romantic heroine, begowned in dreamy puff sleeves and dramatic embroidered corset, festooned with trailing ribbons, layer upon layer of shredded tulle and net veils.
Erdem and his team spent time with staff at the at the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate, and V&A, drawing inspiration for this passionate collection.
It’s a resplendent theme that lends itself gorgeously to dramatic events. Think chandeliers dripping with lace, ribbons, and foliage. Think table linen interspersed with lace and seed pearls. And think Old Masters, like the Girl in the Pearl Earring, embossed into menu cards, place settings and favours boxes.
DISCO DOLLIES AT HALPERN
Many celebrities have already been photographed getting their Barbie on, ahead of 2023’s most anticipated movies. And Mattel granted Halpern access to its archives during the creation of this collection, where he came across archived Barbie designs featuring Studio 54 style chevrons, ruffles, and sequins.
Throw leopard print velvet into the mix. Or perhaps glittery silver suns, moons and stars against an azure backdrop are more to your taste?
There was an entire potpourri of themes going on here. For example, prismatic rainbow sequinned shimmer walls add a dash of disco to any room.
Or you could create a delightful dolls house, decked out from top to bottom in satin swathes of sherbet lemon, tangerine, lilac, and turquoise.
Finally, when we consider weaving event inspiration from London Fashion Week into our parties and celebrations, we definitely need to talk leopard. A leopard print balloon ceiling that bursts with jewel-toned crystals is a sure-fire showstopper. And leopard print cupcakes are great fun. But a word of warning to resist the temptation for leopard print everything. Too much can diminish the effect rather than enhancing it.
